Tamil Nadu Visit to Rameshwaram — A poor girl needs our (continuous) support & two more reports

Hi folks,

Last month, I made a visit to Pamban (near Rameshwaram) to review our ongoing projects. I was able to meet only Saritha. (http://indiasudar.org/projects/project_report_tn_4.82_2009_10.htm). (The other girl is studying @ Tiruchy)

I talked with Saritha & her mother. Ramu, one of the social workers in that area, helped me to meet her. Just a background abt her family. Her family is really a poor family. Living in huts. Her father was separated. She has one sister studying @ 11th. Her mother is going as coolie then and there. Her family depends only on her. Her sister is studying well, secured more than 450 in 10th std.

I talked with them and insisted her to study well, by taking her family situation as an important factor. She also ensured that. She has to pay Rs. 4500 as tuition fee for the current semester. We have been supporting her for the past 3 semesters. If any of you is interested, please send me a mail to my id (cc with admin)

After this, I had a visit to one of the areas, which was burnt in the recent fire accident. Most of the daily coolie ppl lost their houses & belonging. Their children too lost their books, dresses, etc. Once I get a complete detailed information abt how many families need educational stationary support from Ramu, we can decide on that.

After visiting that, I met Patric, one another social activists, in that area. He brought me to another girl’s house. They are also living in a hut. She recently lost her mother. Her father is going as a coolie for fishing. She has 5 sisters, all married. She is the last one. She got a seat @ a nursing college. I think, its worth supporting her too. I will share the remaining documents (college admission copy, fee structure docs, etc), once I receive them from Patric.

I will share pics soon.
