TN SCHOOL VISIT : Govt Middle School, Nallucherry, Tarangambadi taluk,Nagappatinam District, Tamil Nadu

We (I and K Senthil Kumar) visited Govt Middle School, Nallucherry on 31st August 2009.

Based on discussion with HeadMaster, there are three major requirements for this school

1. One local volunteer is working as teacher in that school, but they are able to pay Rs. 200 to 300 per month. They asked us to arrange salary for the teacher.

2. There are 247 students from 10 villages around Nalluchery are getting benefited by this school, but the school does not have proper play ground. One small (1 or 2 feet depth) pool is available inside the campus, but they need fund to make that place as proper playground. They had given petition to local MLA and other goverment officers and waiting for some action.

3. All the students from Nalluchery and sorrounding villages will have to reach sembarkoil or sankaranbandal (which around 6 to 8 km) to access high school (continue 9th and above). Due to this distance, there are many students drop their schooling after 8th standard. However, Headmaster is taking enough initiative to apply for school upgradation, then will become HIGH SCHOOL (upto 10th standard).

As per Govt rules, village people should pay Rs. 1 lakh to get this permission. This school have enough classrooms to accomodate 9th and 10th Standard students, but they DO NOT HAVE FUND.

Headmaster and local people agreed to collect Rs. 20,000 and they expect us to contribute for same cause.

31	Other Comments	There are 10 villages getting benefitted by this school. Once they passed 8th Standard, they will go to Sankaranpandal or Sembanarkoil Govt School to continue schooling from 9th Standard. The distance is around 6 to 8 km distance. Due to this reason, there are many students stopping their education. The School HM initiated to get High School permission for this school. I will be circulating seperate mail for this.
32	Playgroud	There is NO playground available for this school. But there is a small pool available inside the school campus and they need fund to make this pool as playground. They have approached local MLA to get it done.
