Dear Sir,

I Wish to thankyou and India Sudar for allowing me to visit the children and to be with them during the weekend..

Sunday 30.08.09 , We have done the following acitivies:

SPOKEN ENGLISH:

1. We divided the children into two batches, one for senior boys, in 9th and 10th standard , and the second batch for others.

3. Afternoon session, 12 children from the juior section attended the class with complete and devoted attention.(forgot to collect names list)

The children who showed interested and learnt were defenitely above average and have very good grasping power. I am sure they can speak simple and correct english within a couple of months.

Seeing their enthusiasm, I have announced, that those who learn spoken english with interest will be taught computers, and also will get, 1st , 2nd and 3rd prizes if they develop ability to speak in english with 8 sundays. I will try to rope in some one to play guitar or key board in the due course. I do not have anyone right now whom I know of..If some one reading this mail do know about a instrumentalist, please help us..

COMPUTERS:

I have only knowledge of MS Office and internet.
They were provided with my laptop to basically explore on their own to open, shut, create files and do small things …

Next week-end Programme:

1. Spoken English

2. Music (film song )

3. Computer basics– Request you to provide us access to Computer lab if possible…

4. Cricket- planned to play with them.

5. Internet access. I have internet R card installed in laptop , which I intend to carry and provide them some knowledge about browsing in the internet…

I enjoyed every moment of being with them, and would like to visit them any time, when the Children’s Home permits or during the week ends..The boys are very affectionate and well mannered .. I will find it difficult to miss them for a week. I once again thank all those concerned for the opportunity…

With Best Regards

[KA Event] Drawing Competition and Quiz Program at Indira Gandhi School, Jakkur, Bangalore

DSC08853

Dear All,

It was a great saturday for India Sudar KA team and Samsung Seva team.

Venue : Indira Gandhi International Academy, Jakkur, Bangalore.
Time : 2.45p.m to 8.30p.m

India Sudar KA team and Samsung Seva team conducted a Drawing competition for students from 1st to 7th Standard and Quiz program for students of 8th, 9th and 10th standard on 29th August 2009, Saturday.

There were 250 enthusiastic students who participated in the event and enjoyed. It was a great fun and exiciting to see children participate.

We had distributed drawing sheets and a packet of crayon pencils to each student. Our team added spirit to the event by helping participants sharpen their pencils, arranged erasers and scales. It reminded us of our school days.

Our India Sudar member K Balamanikandan, who is an expert in conducting quiz programs was the quiz master for this mega event.. The program ran for more than 4 hours with 10 rounds. The way Bala managed each round was really amazing. The hall was overpooling with the crowd, which encouraged the participants.

Here i would like to share one of the funniest moments of the quiz. We happened to show the Reserve Bank of India emblem with the lion and palm tree which is printed on all indian currency notes and asked to which department it belonged. The crowd couldn’t stop laughing when one of participants answered it belonged to forest department as it had pictures of lion and tree.

Prize distribution was very encouraging . Every winner received India Sudar certificates and prizes amidst a huge round of applause and encouragement from the crowd.

We guys thoroughly enjoyed the event and I guess these photos will talk more than words 🙂

It was a pitiable moment when the caretaker explained us the need for sanitary napkins during our last visit. So, We made it sure to donate sanitary napkins for 100 adult girls towards their healthcare.

The entire event was sponsored by Samsung Seva Team.

India Sudar expresses our hearty thanks to event organizers and Samsung Seva Team. We also thank all the participants for their overwhelming response.

Visit to Vivekananda School for Underpriveledged – Hyderabad – AP

Hello Team

I am sharing the visit report of Vivekananda public school in Banjara hills.

Date of Visit: 9th August 2009

Members Visited: Rashmi, Jayasree

Purpose of visit:

  1. To visit and identify an organisation that can partner with IS in hyd.
  2. To provide support in terms of note books and fill other functional gaps

Key points observed during the visit:

  1. A 26 yr old organisation started by Mr.Murthy (whom we met) and is been run very successfully.
  2. It is a school for slum children, orphans and for people who cannot afford education by any means.
  3. It is an English medium school and has classes from LKG to 10th with 340 students.
  4. They are 16 paid teachers and on an average they are paid from rs.2000-6000 a month.

Support:

  1. This organisation is supported on need basis now and then by some philanthropist and some organisations.
  2. Delloite has contributed one computer lab with 8 computers however there is no ongoing financial support.
  3. The corporate support was not possible so far because they did not have 80G, however they have obtained it this month and we have a copy for proof.
  4. There is no fixed or a complete corporate support by any organisation on a consistent basis.

What can we do?

  1. To begin with we can ask some of volunteers of IS from hyd to visit this place.
  2. We can provide the notebooks that we have for this academic year with our hyd voluteers. It will be good kick start in AP.

For long term:

  1. The premises is too small and the class rooms are congested with just a small partition between (Ref to pics) (It is a rented space)
  2. The Founder said they had to turn out 200 children because of lack of space to accommodate more children.
  3. The ceiling is asbestos roof and the children find it too hot during summer.
  4. There is no flooring (too rough) done in the first floor.
  5. To pay the teachers is the toughest part and they don’t get any support for this.
  6. There monthly budget is Rs.1,40,000 including food, rent salary and everything , they manage to get 50% funds and they struggle for rest 50%.
  7. They have only one teacher to teach computer one more teacher will help to make this reach all the students.
  8. Uniforms shoes stationeries etc are also to be provided on year-on-year basis.

Opinion:

  1. I think that this organisation is one of most suitable organisation for us to adapt for the following reasons.
  2. It is accessible from office as it is in Banjara hills road no. 2 and local volunteer involvement seems to be possible.(as most of them will be in hitech city)
  3. This is been running from a long time and they shown results by ensuring employment to their students.
  4. The founder is a single man is dedicated towards this noble service.
  5. Though they are receiving some sort of help in terms of food (enough for 220 out of 340) there is a scope for us to do much more.

Visit to Govt Remand Home for Girls – Chennai TamilNadu

Date of visit: 25th July 2009

Members visited: Jayasree (From Is) , Hari and some more volunteers from chennai.

Purpose of visit:

  1. To motivate the  students here with by a speech.
  2. To understand their educational requirement.
  3. To gauge the resource utilisation of the library provided by india sudar.
  4. Observations:
  5. The new supernatant is sending the inmates to the corporation school nearby. This is the first time this sort of a step is taken in this school.
  6. The children girls here come from villages and are mostly either social victims or were pushed into some of juvenile activities.
  7. There are students taking up their 10th exams and 9th exams. We gathered some requirements from them for writing pad (as they have to sit down and write exams), geometry box, guides , gel pens etc.
  8. The above requirement has been taken up by hari and team and has been completed successfully. Thanks to them.

 What IS can do.

  1. I gave a speech about self motivation and could sense that many of this children lack that for obvious reasons.
  2. We must conduct some events like a cultural fest and encourage these children to do skit dance etc and give some prizes.
  3. We must also think of conducting a quiz competition here along with some other suitable competition.
  4. In one of previous visit report to the same place i have mentioned about conducting a Art of living sort of course for this children.  We must figure out on “How to?” and act up on it.
  5. Our library here is slowly getting outdated and we must replenish it with some new books. We can design our quiz based on these books to encourage the reading habit.
  6. Our volunteers in chennai must visit this place more often and talk to these children about importance of education.
