India Sudar recently initiated the Environment Project. The aim of the project is to take care of our Environment with the help of students. This project will be implemented only within the India Sudar Onsite i.e. wherever our education projects are deployed.

IS Environment Project includes the following activities:
1) India Sudar plants a tree for each project and ensures that trees will be taken care by the project beneficiary (Students & Teachers)
2) Teaching students how to keep the place neat and safely
3) Awareness on global warming

On the day of 3G telecom technology launched in Chennai (22 February 2009), India Sudar initiated the first IS Environment project in Udhavum Nanbargal Tuition Centre, Edapalayam Village, Alathur Panchayat, Palavedu Post, Chennai. With the great co-operation of Sarathy, Udhavum Nanbargal, we have planted 11 avenue trees in the proposed land of new tuition centre for 10th & 12 students. The trees growth will be monitored by the students who are studying in the centre. The 11 trees are planted for the 11 projects executed by India Sudar in this centre.

Report – Chikbellapur Notebook drive review visit!

Date of Visit: 7th Feb 2009 Saturday

Members Visited: Prashanth L A, Shiva, Jayasree J, Ramprasad

Place of visit: Chikbellapur District – Kadrinehalli, Alganahalli, Ramachandrapura, Chikrakagudur.

Purpose of Visit:

An inspection visit to monitor the usage of stationary materials provided by India sudar during the Note book drive.

To interact with the teachers and know about the status and progress of students.

To interact with the students to know their requirements for the coming academic year.

To quickly analyze the level of understanding and learning of the subject among the students.

General Observations Made:

1.      Most of the note books given by IS were consumed properly.

2.      Seems like the note books were not sufficient for the complete academic year, so the teachers managed to get it from other well wishers and donors.

3.      Schools were well maintained and attendance was pretty good considering that it was a Saturday.

4.      Mid day meals were provided in a well organized manner in all most all the schools.

5.      However in a few schools children of even class 2 or 3 or not able to read alphabets in kanada. This is something that needs to tracked and worked upon.

6.      In a few villages providing uniforms may be needed , even the casual clothes were too torn.

7.      Awareness about cleanliness and personal hygiene may be required, one session can be held on that during our visits. For example teaching to cut nails.

Village wise Observations:

a) Kadrinehalli :

– School has only 40 students with 2 teachers.
– Next year the count of the students may marginally increase.
– The notebooks were being used well, infact they have used up in full & had taken new ones.
– Requested India sudar for a mini library with relevant books

b) Alganahalli:

– We visited a few classes to interact with students.
– All the classes were progressing very well.
– 7th students were very well spoken and good in English

– Asked for Sports material if possible. They have a big ground. Previously had some footballs of low quality (after tender), but there are no more in usable condition.

We may give rings, badminton and few footballs.
– The library was well equipped library of Kananda books. DO not have English books.
Wanted to know if we can donate English books. But they also need shelf, because now they are all stuffed in small godrej bureau.

c) Ramachandrapura
– By the time we reached school was closed(Working for half a day during weekends – infact only till 11:30 am)
– Interacted with few kids who study there..
– Went to see the garden they maintain – it’s really good work!!

They had created a eco friendly in such a remote place, truly commendable! !
This school won best lower primary title in Karnataka.

d) Chirkakagudur:
– First visited Chikrakagudur school, to check out the usage of library.
– We could not talk with HM as he was engaged in the meeting with visiting BEO.
– From interaction from children we saw that they were using the books.
We even asked a few books they read and they were more than happy to say it

Overall it was very engaging and motivating visit.

We were happy that the books provided by us are used well and reassured the children that they will get their notebooks and pencils for the current year as well.

Have a look at the photographs!

[India Sudar] An elevated Thanking as Indiasudar has presented an effective library

From: Shanmukavadivu Murugesan, Gov Teacher

Dear Members,

An elevated Thanking as Indiasudar has presented an effective library to government Hr.Sec School,Renganathanpettai,Karur,TN.

As every student has a dream to enter a school, a teacher too.

I am also such a teacher with lot of dreams about my school and the ways and means of discharging my duties.

An effective library with ‘NO USELESS BOOKS’ is one such thing.

Indiasudar has made this dream true. That too, you have provided moderate freedom according to the local needs.

I swear that this resource will be very helpful to convert the student mass as effective mass and make the population into human resource.

I wish and pray Indiasudar to become GLOBAL SUDAR and be persisting for ever for its high ideals and spirit as a MARATHANrace of an Olympic Torch which is honoured ever for its noblest ideals even after their objectives fulfilled.

My dear Noblest Hearts,

May you and your off springs be blessed with Good Health, Great Wisdom and All the things best which will make your life beautiful and meaningful.

I am sure NEWTON’S third Law works out Always.

With Regards,
KSV.

KARNATAKA : Govt Higher Primary School, Kundalakalli, Bangalore – Visit report

Dear All,

India Sudar member Mahesh Anjanappa asked us to visit Govt Higher Primary School at Kundalahalli. On 31st Jan 2009 we visited the school along with him. This school is situated about 500 metres away from COSMOS Mall, Kundalahalli, Bangalore.

School Strength and Classroom Infrastructure.

dsc069141There are 220 students studying from 1st to 7th Standard (115 boys and 105 girls) at this school, and there are some dropouts due to family migration to different place often. Most of the students are from near by villages, slums and construction workers families.

As most of the families come here  for construction work who keep changing their locations, the kids will be forced to change their schools as well.

dsc06910This school  has good building with 6 class rooms and 1 computer room, but they use only 4 class rooms due to shortage of teachers. iGate company provided few computers and HOPE FOUNDATION deployed a teacher to provide computer training, who comes to this school on weekdays.

Shortage of School Teachers

There are 4 teachers in this school including Headmistress Mrs. Medakkar. As the staff strength is low teachers combine 2 classes making use of only three class rooms. Students sit on the floor as all the students can’t be seated on the benches provided for a single class.  Teachers have requested us to provide few mats which would cost around Rs. 1500 to Rs. 2000 each.

School Uniform, Shoes, Text Books and Note Books
Govt provides uniform material for all students and stiching charges should be managed by students, which many poor students may not afford. Govt provides text books, but they want notebooks for all students. We may need to support for this every year.

Students have no shoes .However, we are not keeping shoes as requirement as of now compared to their other requirements.

Mid day Meal, Drinking water and Toilet

Students get mid day meal from AKSHAYA PATRA program, but they have shortage of plates & drinking water glasses which we may need to donate.

All use the coporation water which  is not purified. It would be better, if we could fix water purifier for this school.

They have one poorly maintained toilet which the girl students find difficult to use. We may need to think of constructing toilet for them.

Sports activities and library

There is no play ground and no sports materials as well. They have good library.

Mr. Venkatesh and his teaching at this school WITHOUT SALARY

While we were visiting classes, we found a really interesting person, a college going boy  teaching kannada in one of the classrooms

dsc06915He is  Mr. Venkatesh the 8th child of  a poor family. He has 7 sisters and 4 younger brothers. His mother is no more and his father is a drunkard. He is  doing his final year B.A History at Govt. Arts College, Kundalahalli, Bangalore.
It is with his personal interest he is taking classes in this school  for the past 4 years between 1.30p.m to 3p.m during weekdays and spends his saturday. He receives NO SALARY.

His routine starts with car washing from  5a.m to 8a.m and then he attends his arts college.

1.30p.m to 3p.m – Govt Higher Primary School, Kundalahalli,
4p.m to 6p.m – Teaching at Sai Ram NGO for slum kids ( He is getting Rs. 500 from here)

CURRENT REQUIREMENTS FOR SCHOOL AND ESTIMATION FOR THIS YEAR

1. Mats for the class rooms – 3 (This would cost Rs. 1500 to 2000 per pice)
2. Eating plates and drinking glasses – 100
3. It would be good, if we could pay little amount to Venkatesh for his teaching at Govt Higher Primany School.
4. Toilet facility – This needs big budget. India Sudar would approach Rotary Club in Bangalore for the same.
5. Water purifier – Need to get estimate
6. Note books donation during next academic year
7. One Teacher deployment would be better at this moment.
