Photos from Villages

village in Chennai to Calcutta High way

I have visited to Guthavaripalem Village, Kadivedu Post, Gudur Thaluk, Nellore District – 524 410, AP on 20-Dec-2006.

I have visited to these villages and neighbor villages through Mr.Prabhu.

A. Mr.Prabhu:
He is from Suddhananda Ashram(Uthandi Ashram) and currently stayed in Guthavaripalem Village. Currently he is setting up free school in this village through THAPASVINI Trust. He stayed in this place with his wife Anitha.
B. THAPASVINI Trust: Mrs.Barkavi setting (Building) up Ashram and School for this village to provide free education in this village student. Initially they are planned to provide upto 5th standard(CBSE). But it will take one more year to start this school. She provides 15 acr of land and fund to build this School and Ashram for this village. Her native is Gudur & family in USA.
C. Mr.Prabhu Activity: Currently he set upped 6 Tution centers in these villages through local students. He is paying (400 Rs p/m) for this Tuition teachers(10th, Degree students only). There is no skilled teacher available in these villages.

6 Village 6 Tution Teachers:

D. I have visited to following Villages & Other neighbor villages also there:

  • Gurhavaripalem Village, 250 families
  • Kadivedu Village, 600 families
  • Chillcuru Village, 1000 families
  • Chittadu Village, 1000 families
  • Kantika Village, 150 families
  • Kamavaripalayam, 200 families

No Lights in these schools:

E. About Villages & Requirent:

1. This entire village people purely depend on Agriculture only.

2. This villages contain TWO category of the families, FIRST who owning the land, SECOND who working for some land lords. FIRST category of people having very good house, studying in matriculation school, etc. SECOND category of the people don’t have house, no medical, no education, etc.

3. Every village having “ONE TEACHER SCHOOL”, it means only one teacher available for a school & same person will teach 1st standard to 5th/6th/7th.

4. Most of the village students not ready to go to school at all, some students going to school only for LUNCH.

5. Most of the village students dropping their education at 5th or 6th or 7th class itself. Because they don’t know the importance of Education and they are not able spend money for education.
6. Scondary(10th) & Higher Scondary(+1, +2): this village having one government school to provide secondary and higher secondary education for this complete region. Most of the students failed at 10th because of Maths & English papers. So some student’s education ends here. This government school holding 600 students but they don’t have enough TEACHERS.

F. How INDIA SUDAR (my view) can help for this VILLAGE Students ?

1.We can provide education awareness program
2.We can setup Tuition Centers for villages
3.We can setup Tuition Center for 10th Students only.
4.We can provide education stationary.
5.We can setup English(Spoken) Summer classes.

One of the Land Lord Very much interested to educate this village people, But he is not able to find teacher for this.

Site Report: Udhavum Nanbargal at Alathur

Suresh.R and myself had visited Udhavum Nanbargal, at Alathur situated near Thiruninravur, Chennai on 16th Dec’2006. Here is a report on facts, find outs and requirements.

Name of the organization: Udhavum Nanbargal (Registered Trust)

Address: No. 1/30, Alathur village,
Palavedu Post, Avadi IAF,
Chennai, TamilNadu. PIN: 600 055

Contact Person: Mr.Sarathy

Contacts: Mobile: 9444511057 and email:

Udhavum Nanbargal is doing its best to its own village called Alathur with a population of 3500. It is mostly co-ordinated and run by Mr. Sarathy, who himself is a son of soil of Alathur. It is a registered trust, all trustees are village people only. Mr. Sarathy co-ordinate and guide them. They run the following centres to elevate the living standard of their village.

1. Evening Tuition centre
2. Home for destitute
3. Computer training centre
4. Type writing centre
5. Tailoring centre
6. Embroidering centre
7. Library,
8. Health centre.

Apart from these, they conduct training camps on rural development and assistance to physically challenged and poor who need medical facilities. All these centres are not massive in size; most of these are run in the big house of Mr.Sarathy (He is a bachelor) . These institutes serves the people of that village. Evening tuition centre is organized in a professional way. Apart from school studies, here the students are given moral education, computer education (MS-Office/Photo Shop/etc.), trained in Self-evaluation, spoken English, etc.

The uniqueness of this trust is the participation of village in fund raising and self organization. Many people in the village contribute around Rs. 50/- per months for this noble cause. The model is such that village people help themselves without much dependent on external resources (man power, fund, ideas, etc). Mr.Sarathy restricts the strength of Tuition centre to 60 since he counts quality of service not quantity since it is an experimental attempt for him also.

Priority #1: Require new or old sewing machines in good condition to replace the very old faulty machines.

Priority #2:
Mr.Sarathy has plans to provide job opportunites like data entry works for youngsters. They need around 2 computers for Computer Training centre (for children) and 10 computers for Date entry work (for adults).

Priority #3: Tuition teachers to be deployed for SSLC students, who needs special care. High level estimation is 50 students – 4 to 6 teachers – amount of 2K to 3K per month. If any body confirms their support to this task, Mr. Sarathy will plan and work out for detailed plan. He does not want to start tuition for current batch, he aims for next year students.

Priority #4: 100 Nos. of Ruled long size Notebooks and 50 Nos. of Unruled long size Notebooks.

Udhavum Nanbargal is doing wonderful job but not much interested in fame and money from others. The village is testing its own model of development frame work which is a unique roll model for other villages. They train themselves for betterment of their living standard.

Doranahalli, KA.

Dear All,

We came to know about the HOME FOR DISABLED at Doranahalli, K R Nagar Taluk, Mysore District through my friend Deena, who is working in DRDO. He visits this place once in a month or two, and he was asking me to find sometime to visit and do something for them.

Myself (Ravikumar), Shiva, Gopalakrishnan and Deena visited this home on last saturday (9th Dec 2006). This home is around 50 km away from Mysore on the way to Coorg including 2 km village road with paddy fields on boths side. This village has a beautiful church.

Village Church:

This home is started by a Sister Barbara (Now Age 80) in 1981 and has 17 people including 5 school going students, old people and few kids who lost their growth and one 21 year old girl affected by polio. Sister Barbara identified them from place called Kollegal and started a home for them at Doranahalli. Sister Ba! rbara Stays at Kollegal and visits this home once in a while.

Mrs. Moksha Rani is taking care of these 17 people in a rented house (Rs. 300 per month). The house is damanged and they can’t sit inside when it rains. However they need around Rs. 3,000 to 4000 per month for all expenses (food, rent, electricity and other expenses).

Mrs. Monika involved in social service partially after her MA, then she got married to another social worker and decided to do full time social sercice. She is living there and taking care of them now.

Living Place:
School Going Students With Deena:

his home is part of MANAVA JEEVODAYA, Social and Leprosy Rehabilitation Society, Madhuvanahalli, Kollegal taluk, Chamarajanagar District – 571 801, but it is not funded by them now.

We went there with groceries worth of Rs. 2000 (funded by India Sudar Member Mohammed Rafiq) and that would come for about 10 days.

Few things about the home

– 4 grils and 1 boy going to school from that home. They need constant support for their education. Deena will join India Sudar and he would be represent from India Sudar to support for their education.

– Their monthly expenses is around Rs. 3000 to 4000

– 21 year girl affected by Polio and she can’t walk until she gets operation. Deena is trying to arrange for her operation through Sathya Sai Super Speciality Hospital.

– They are not getting constant funding, but managing with few good people, who are regular to church.
